Zhangjiajie
The sandstone pillars that became the floating mountains of Avatar
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a UNESCO Global Geopark and the visual reference for the floating mountains in the film Avatar. The pillars here are over 200 meters tall and often disappear entirely into cloud.
We plan around the weather rather than against it: Tianzi Mountain for sunrise, the Golden Whip Stream for the valley floor, and Tianmen Mountain's glass walkway for anyone who wants their knees to shake.
